A website isn’t a one-time purchase, it’s more like a car. Build it well and it runs fine for a while. Ignore it completely and something will eventually break, usually at the worst time. Here’s what maintenance costs in Nigeria and what it should include.
What Maintenance Actually Means
- Software and plugin updates. WordPress and its plugins release updates often, many of them security fixes.
- Backups. If something goes wrong, your site can be restored instead of rebuilt.
- Security monitoring. Catching attempted hacks before they succeed.
- Uptime monitoring. Making sure your site is actually online.
- Small content changes. New prices, a new service, a swapped photo.
How Much You Need Depends on What You Built
AI-built sites are small and simple (1 to 5 pages). On our Starter plan, managed hosting means the server side is taken care of for you, so there’s less to maintain. What you’ll mainly want is someone to make changes and handle problems.
WordPress sites have more moving parts (plugins, themes, forms, payments), so regular updates, backups and security checks matter more, especially for stores and booking sites.
Typical Market Pricing
- ₦0, DIY. Free, but you or your team need the know-how and time to handle updates, backups and troubleshooting.
- ₦15,000 to ₦40,000 per month, basic plans. Updates, backups and basic monitoring for simple business sites.
- ₦40,000 to ₦100,000 per month, fuller plans. Adds regular small content updates, faster response and proactive monitoring, for sites that bring in leads regularly.
Fos Arena maintenance plans are priced separately from the build. Ask us for current rates when you choose your site plan.
What Happens If You Skip It
- Outdated plugins become security holes. Many hacked WordPress sites are running plugins that were years out of date.
- No backup means no safety net. If the site goes down, starting over is the only option.
- Small problems become big ones. A broken contact form nobody notices for three months is three months of lost enquiries.
Is Monthly Maintenance Worth It?
Not every business require monthly maintenance, and many time, everything goes on fine. But if you depend on your site for active lead generation, constant blogging, enquiries, sales (digital payment) or some other technical functionalities, yes. Compare the monthly fee to what it would cost you in lost business and stress if your site was down or hacked for a week.
Again, I say, not every type of website needs monthly maintenance. If your site is a simple “this is who we are” AI or portfolio site, a lighter arrangement may be enough. Or you can choose to skip it altogether.
What to Budget
If you need it, ₦15,000 to ₦40,000 per month covers the essentials for most small and medium businesses, without paying for support you don’t need.
